Frequently Asked Questions

Services & Techniques

Do you offer traditional body tattooing?

No, annae.tattoo specializes exclusively in Permanent Makeup (PMU) services, such as powder brows, permanent lips, and eyeliner.

We do not offer traditional body tattooing. Our techniques and pigments are specifically chosen for facial cosmetic enhancement, which differs significantly from traditional tattoo artistry.

What is the difference between Microblading and the Ombre Powder Brows you offer?

This is a common and important question. We exclusively specialize in the modern Ombre Powder Brow technique because it provides safer, longer-lasting, and more beautiful results for the vast majority of clients.

In short: Microblading uses a manual blade to cut hair-like strokes, which can be harsh on the skin and is unsuitable for many skin types. Our technique uses a specialized machine to create a series of tiny dots (pixels), resulting in a soft, shaded "powdered" look that is gentler, suitable for all skin types, and lasts longer.

Do you offer Brow Lamination?

No, we do not offer brow lamination. Brow lamination is a popular temporary chemical treatment that helps style brow hairs into a desired shape, creating a fuller, more defined look for about 6-8 weeks.

While brow lamination offers temporary styling, many clients seeking defined and low-maintenance brows find our Ombre Powder Brows to be a superior, longer-lasting solution. PMU provides consistently perfect, naturally shaded brows that last 1-3 years, eliminating the need for daily styling or frequent chemical treatments.

If you're looking for beautifully shaped and defined brows with minimal daily effort, we invite you to explore our Ombre Powder Brow services. It's an investment in waking up with perfect brows every day!

Does PMU work on oily skin?

Yes, but the healed result behaves differently than on dry or normal skin.

Oily skin tends to soften and diffuse pigment during healing, which can result in a slightly less defined finish and faster fading over time. For brows specifically, this is actually one of the reasons powder brows are a better choice than microblading for oily skin types. The shaded, pixelated effect holds more reliably than individual hair strokes.

In practice, clients with oilier skin may find they need a refresh session sooner than average. Anna assesses your skin type during the consultation and adjusts the technique and pigment saturation accordingly.

The Procedure

Are there any conditions that prevent PMU?

Yes. PMU is not suitable for everyone, and some conditions require you to postpone or seek medical clearance first.

You must not book if you are:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Currently taking Accutane (isotretinoin) or within 12 months of finishing a course.
  • Undergoing chemotherapy or immunosuppressive treatment.
  • Experiencing an active skin condition — eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis — on or near the treatment area.

You must disclose before booking if you:

  • Take blood thinners, anticoagulants, or aspirin regularly.
  • Have a bleeding or clotting disorder.
  • Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring.
  • Have a history of cold sores (relevant for lip PMU — see the permanent lips page for details).
  • Have diabetes, epilepsy, or another chronic condition that may affect healing.

If you are uncertain whether your situation is compatible with PMU, check with your GP first and mention it during your digital consultation before booking.

Does Permanent Makeup hurt?

Client comfort is a top priority. A highly effective topical anesthetic cream is applied before and during the procedure to numb the area, significantly minimizing any discomfort. Most clients describe the sensation as minimal, similar to light tweezing or scratching. Many are so relaxed they nearly fall asleep!

Is the procedure safe?

Absolutely. We adhere to the strictest hygiene and safety standards. Key safety measures include:

  • Single-Use Equipment: All needles are 100% sterile, individually packaged, and disposed of immediately after each client's procedure.
  • High-Quality Pigments: We use only premium, certified pigments that are tested for safety and are produced to the highest industry standards.
  • Sanitized Environment: The treatment area and all equipment are thoroughly disinfected before and after every appointment.

How long does the appointment take?

A typical new PMU appointment lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours. This includes a thorough consultation, mapping and shaping the design for your approval, applying the anesthetic, and the procedure itself. The actual tattooing time is often around 30-45 minutes.

What happens at my first appointment?

Here is what to expect from start to finish:

  • Consultation: Anna begins by discussing your goals, assessing your skin type, and reviewing your medical history. This is the moment to ask any remaining questions.
  • Design and mapping: The shape, symmetry, and tone are planned and drawn on before any pigment is used. You will be asked to approve the design before anything is permanent.
  • Numbing: A topical anesthetic is applied and allowed to take effect. Most clients feel this is when they start to relax.
  • Procedure: The actual work takes around 30–45 minutes. You can rest, listen to music, or simply close your eyes.
  • Aftercare briefing: Anna will walk you through the healing steps and what to expect over the coming days. Written instructions are also available on our aftercare page.

Come with clean skin and no makeup on the treatment area. Avoid caffeine and alcohol the morning of your appointment.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

To ensure the best possible results, please follow these guidelines:

  • Avoid caffeine, alcohol, aspirin, and ibuprofen for 24 hours before your appointment, as they can thin the blood.
  • Avoid sun tanning or intense sun exposure on your face for one week prior.
  • Discontinue use of any Vitamin A/Retinol products on the forehead, brow, and eye area for two weeks prior.
  • Do not wax, tweeze, or tint your eyebrows for at least 3 days before the procedure.

Healing & Results

What is the healing process like?

The healing process is a journey with several stages. Right after the procedure, the color will appear darker and bolder than the final result. Over the next 7-10 days, the area will gently flake or scab. It is critical not to pick at the flakes. Once the flaking is complete, the color may appear very light or "ghosted" for a few weeks before it blooms back to its true shade. The full, healed result is visible after 4-6 weeks.

How long does Permanent Makeup last?

PMU is considered semi-permanent. It is designed to fade gracefully over time. On average, results last between 1 to 3 years. Longevity depends on your skin type, lifestyle (sun exposure is a major factor), and skincare routine. To keep your PMU looking fresh, we recommend a yearly PMU Refresh session.

Why is a touch-up session necessary?

PMU is a two-step process. The initial session builds the foundation and shape. During the healing process, some areas may heal lighter or the color may slightly shift. The touch-up session, performed 4–8 weeks later, is where we perfect the results. We assess how your skin has healed the pigment and make any necessary adjustments to color, density, and shape to ensure a flawless and long-lasting outcome.

When would I need an Additional Touch-Up?

Not everyone does. After the first touch-up session, most clients have the result they want and nothing further is needed until their annual refresh.

An Additional Touch-Up is available for cases where one touch-up session was not quite enough, for example if the skin retained pigment unevenly in one area, or if a small adjustment to density or shape is wanted. It is performed 2–4 weeks after the first touch-up once healing is fully complete, and is priced at kr 1,000.

Whether you need one is usually clear at the time of your first touch-up. Anna will advise you honestly at that appointment.

What is a PMU Refresh and when do I need one?

A PMU Refresh is a maintenance session for clients whose permanent makeup has faded naturally over time. It is different from a touch-up, which is part of the standard two-step procedure for new work.

PMU fades gradually, typically over 1 to 3 years depending on skin type, sun exposure, and lifestyle. A Refresh restores the color and density to something close to the original result. Most clients find they want one yearly, though some go longer between sessions.

A Refresh session is available to clients whose original procedure was performed by Anna. If your PMU was done by another artist and has faded, the right starting point is usually an assessment rather than a direct refresh. See PMU Restoration for those cases.

Pricing & Booking

How does permanent makeup save me time and money?

While the upfront cost is an investment, it provides significant returns by saving you two of your most valuable assets: time and money. Here's how:

  • Time Saved Daily: Imagine saving around 10 minutes every single morning. That adds up to over 60 hours in a single year that you get back for yourself. You wake up with perfectly defined features, ready for the day.
  • Money Saved on Products: Consider the annual cost of brow pencils, powders, gels, eyeliners, and professional tinting appointments. A single PMU procedure, which lasts 1-3 years, can often be less expensive than the continuous cost of these products and services.
  • Effortless Confidence: Your makeup is smudge-proof, waterproof, and flawless 24/7. Whether you're at the gym, swimming, or caught in the rain, you can be confident that you look your best without a second thought.

What are the Trilogy and Dual Deluxe packages?

These are discounted bundles for clients who want more than one PMU service.

The Dual Deluxe Selection covers any two initial PMU sessions — for example brows and lips, or brows and eyeliner — for kr 7,000 instead of kr 8,000, saving kr 1,000.

The Signature Elite Trilogy covers all three initial PMU services — brows, lips, and eyeliner — for kr 10,000 instead of kr 12,000, saving kr 2,000.

Both packages cover the initial sessions only. Touch-up sessions for each procedure are priced separately. The sessions do not all need to happen on the same day and can be spread across multiple appointments.

If you are considering more than one service, booking a package at the start is more cost-effective than adding services later at individual pricing. If you are unsure which services are right for you, a digital consultation before booking is a good first step.

What is the Revision Fee?

A Revision Fee of kr 500 is added when a new PMU session is performed over an area that already has existing pigment from a previous artist.

Working over someone else's permanent makeup is more complex than working on fresh skin. The existing pigment affects color choices, how new pigment is placed, and how the healed result will look. The Revision Fee reflects that additional technical work.

The fee applies to the initial session only — not to touch-up or refresh sessions on Anna's own work. If you are unsure whether this applies to your situation, mention your previous PMU history when you send photos for a digital consultation.

Note: in some cases, existing PMU may need to be faded before a new session is possible. See PMU Restoration for those cases.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, card, Vipps, and Klarna. Full payment is due on the day of your appointment.

We do not currently require a deposit to hold a booking, but our cancellation policy applies. Cancellations within 48 hours of your appointment incur a 50% fee.

How far in advance should I book?

It varies. Evening slots and Saturdays tend to fill up 2–4 weeks ahead. If you have a specific date or time preference, booking early is worthwhile. Weekday daytime slots are generally available on shorter notice.

If you are planning ahead for a holiday, wedding, or event, keep in mind that the full process, initial session plus touch-up, takes about 8 to 10 weeks from start to final healed result. Plan accordingly if timing matters.
